Speech & Performance
Skills Club
(Century Dr. Only)

GREEN Charter Middle School will have an after school Speech & Performance club on Thursday afternoons until 4:30
& taught by Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Carter
Who is this for?
Current Speech & Debate students at Century Dr. or students that would like to learn the skills of events without the commitment or competition of our tournament team.
Students currently in Speech and Debate Club can join as an additional training and practice for competitions.
Students that are interested in the skills or speech and debate but don't want the commitment of joining the team or competitions will be able to try categories of speech.
Interpretive categories:
NOVICE READING: - performing a children's book or short story under NSDA regulations
Humorous Interpretation - performing a funny 5-10 min scene/play following NSDA regulations
Duo - performing a 5-10/min scene with a partner following NSDA regulations
Public Address categories:
Expository: Writing and performing a 5 min speech that typically educates the audience about something
Informative speaking: Similar to expository, write a speech up to 10 minutes and provide visuals to help aid your speech.
Declamation: performing a speech that's publicly been given by someone before. Typically these speeches are TED talks.
Most performances, will require students to learn how to "cut down" source material in order to make it a piece that can fit the performance requirements.
With Mrs. Carter's recommendation students that join this club and decide they would like to join the competitive Speech and Debate club can join in the Spring and use what they have been working on.
(GREEN is no longer offering debate at the moment)
Speech and Performance Club at the GREEN Charter Middle school is not the same as GREEN CHARTER SPEECH AND DEBATE CLUB
Details on joining will be sent to your student at school once middle school afternoon clubs start.
