States Tournament

The Green Charter Speech and Debate team performed remarkably at the states tournament this Friday. This tournament had students competing against the best competitors in South Carolina, with a total of 17 schools attending. This was a very long tournament, with some families having to drive over an hour to arrive, and then walk long distances through a large college campus (which is especially tiring if you're wearing heels!) Even though this tournament felt incredibly long (I would know), we still managed to walk away with multiple plaques under our belts! I, along with our coaches, would like to congratulate Quasim Mossafer for placing 4th in Literature, Shreyas Racha for placing 6th in Expository, Christopher Simonelli for placing 6th in Impromptu, and Emma Borchardt (hey, that's me!) for placing 4th in Impromptu and 2nd in Declamation.

Even though this is an incredible feat for our middle school team, it's not all that we care about. This tournament marks the end (excluding Nationals) of a season filled with growth and learning. I have personally seen a lot of my friends improve as people because of the life-lessons Speech and Debate teaches you. Over this season, students have learned how to be brave, empathetic, quick-thinkers, and many other life skills that will greatly help them in the future. So, no matter what students walk away with at the end of this year, we hope that they will appreciate what this club has given them. Because this extra-curricular gives a gift way grander than a medal ever could.
Here's to another successful year!
Look ahead, good things are coming!
